In 1999, Mark developed Mission Road Mini-Storage, a 62,400 square foot, 506-unit, state of the art self storage facility. It was the first climate-controlled (14.1% of G.L.A.) on the south side of San Antonio. The project hit 93% stabilized occupancy in the first 18 months. Mark has owned and managed the property since its inception. In 2005 Mark was the developer of 3009 Self-Storage, a 3-story, 104,000 square foot, 518-unit, all climate-controlled self storage property along with 32 mini-offices on IH-35 in Schertz, Texas. This $6,000,000 facility won 2nd place “Facility of the Year 2006 – United States” from 183 entries. Skeans developed Potranco Road Self-Storage Phase I, with 24,000 square feet which opened December 2013. Phase II opened in 2017 for a total of 42,015 square feet. Mark is the managing partner and oversees the managers responsible for day-to-day operations. Fee developments include (1) Mines Road Self Storage, a “green friendly” 69,350 square feet facility, Laredo, Texas. This property won First Place as Overall 2014 Facility of the Year in the Mini Storage Messenger competition; (2) Kyle Parkway Self Storage, 75,000 square feet, Kyle, Texas. (3) Mainland Self Storage, 28,200 square feet in 2017, San Antonio, Texas. Other Experience From 2001 to 2004, Mark developed a high-end residential neighborhood in Castle Hills, Texas. He coordinated the efforts of many custom home builders to what is now the thriving prominent community of West Oaks of Castle Hills. Prior to founding Skeans & Associates, LLC in 1987, which specialized in commercial real estate brokerage, development and management, Mark was Director of Commercial Properties for Rand Development Corporation from 1986 through 1987. He supervised lease negotiations, property management and project management for over 620,000 square feet of office and retail projects throughout Texas. From 1984 to 1986, he was employed by Rand Development Corporation, as Project Manager, acting as liaison between the Plano City Planning Department, architect, engineer’s, anchor tenants and project developer for a 117,500 square foot, $16,750,000.00 specialty retail center in Plano, Texas. Professional Affiliations Mark has served nine (9) years on the Texas Self Storage Association’s Board of Directors in the past. He holds the title of Past President (2013-2014) and has served on the Executive, Finance, Ethics and Legislative committees. The Association has 3,382 member facilities and is the largest State Association in the United States. Education and Awards Mark A. Skeans graduated with a Masters of Urban and Regional Planning from Texas A & M University in 1984. He was the recipient of the Outstanding Student Award from the American Institute of Certified Planners 1984; and a four (4) time recipient of the Distinguished Student Award. Mark served as Co-Chairman, Student Council, College of Architecture, Texas A & M University 1982-1984. |
